History
In 1976 Donald E. Stanius, father of two of SJA’s current principals, founded our company, building an office on the site of a former gas station on Duluth’s eastern hillside. In 2005 we moved our Duluth offices into the Technology Village building in the heart of the downtown, about a block from Lake Superior. It gives us more room to grow.
Two important changes occurred in 2003. First, SJA acquired the St. Cloud office of Fred Wemlinger, a veteran architect known for his energy, creativity and versatility. Under SJA’s banner, the St. Cloud office has added new staff and will continue to grow. Second, we changed our name from Stanius Johnson Architects to SJA Architects.
SJA Architects Today
Our corporation is now owned and led primarily by five partners, all of whom are registered architects active in the business. Every SJA project is headed by one of the five partners, ensuring that our clients always have direct access to the firm’s owners. And we listen well.
